EGT's will rise and fall with movement of your foot or hill you hit, ect. Open road driving mine will stay between 600 and 800 degrees. 1200 is the theshold for any prolonged amount of time. Higher temps won't hurt for short periods, and 1400 is my personal max. I will back of if I see 1300 and a choice.
Either you're not running a hot tuner, or you gauge is off. I can hit 1000 easy, 1200 in most tunes and if I crank up the any thing over 100hp, 1400 if I get on it.
No I mean I have a TS 6 position, and I am running 75hp economy and I really don't beat on the truck at all haha. I didn't want to do anything before I knew the truck enough, and what was safe. I didn't know if 1100 was fine, or 1400 was okay ya know?? Which was why I wanted to find out. Hell before 2 weeks ago I didnt know what the hell an EGT was lol
Thanks guys. I think the highest I have seen was like 1000, and I was really into the throttle.

Where is the EGT probe located? That's the most important question before going any further in the discussion.
On the exhaust manifold. He drilled it from underneath and then tapped it in.

Good.
Then 1250 is your max sustainable EGT's. Keep it under that number for any extended period of time. You can only go over that in short bursts, such as drag racing or sled pulling.
