So I have a 82 F100 with an 300 inline 6. I installed a holley 4187 4 bbl and dual exhaust. I rebuilt the transmission in 08 and installed a new clutch in 07. My issue is that occassionally in reverse the vehicle will violently shutter when i start out. i have to gently release the clutch and it will begin to shutter and shake the entire truck. I have not been able to figure out what causes this. I put 31 inch BFG ATFs on the truck but have the original differental in. Could this be a gearing issue and if so can you recommend a new differental that I should put in. I do off road in the truck but always have to be aware of where I go. Of course it is only a 2 wheel drive. Not looking to do any hard core stuff but would like to maybe step up the rear end.
When you replaced the clutch, did you have the flywheel resurfaced?
What about engine/trans mounts? If they are in need of replacement, they won't the the engine/trans as solid as they should.
I'm guessing you have either a 3 speed or the 4 speed w/OD, as the granny 4 has such a low geared reverse that you shouldn't need to "slip" the clutch to get moving.
