Question black fuel filter?

hey guys...
i was doing some reading/searching and ran across somethings. last time i changed my fuel filter, it was black. i assumed it was algae. then last nite i read it could be injector o-rings. not a huge deal, i was planning to do GPs and 910 springs at spring fling. i have been seaching and i dont lose alot of oil...like 3 qts/3500 miles. i also have noticed my mileage went down after doing in-tank mods and FRx last summer. just wondering if 1 or more o-rings are leaking? is fuel mileage a sign or not? any way to for sure know if they are leaking, or is it just a shot in the dark? 195k on what i think are stock injectors. id hate to tear it all apart and not need the rings or even worse screw something up while in there. thanks for any help and opinions....

Chris -Might try an oil analysis,(Blackstone) if you havent done one lately - I think they can tell. Might be worth the 25 bucks. Good luck

I would think you could pull your new fuel filter out now and it would give you an idea. If its already black, then you've got some leaking o-rings. If it's still clean it could be trash and alge from an extended amount of time.

Chris, before you get into the possible injector issues, change your filter and get fuel from a different station. Try to rule out dirty bad fuel first before thinking about anything else. Thats what I'd do anyway, could be a bad fueling source.

Chris, my experience with a black fuel filter was one bad injector o-ring, but my fuel MPG was not affected, just big oil loss. Thats how I knew it was an o-ring. Your symptoms are a little different than mine.

I was just throwing something out there for you. I've seen filters that were bad like you mention from a bad fuel source but you might just have something else going on...and good luck, hope its nothing major..
