Good advise....does not matter if its 'old news' or a repost. A lot of people don't know this (myself included). You've certainly saved some people from this by posting. Thank you for this!

thanks for posting this article. it kinda shook me up from just reading it. i have never read the label but, knew of the hazards from word of mouth and too think about it i was thinking of taking classes to learn more about welding.....damn
No, the issue is creating a poisonous gas that can kill or severely injure you. The presence of the brake cleaner, argon gas, and heat is what creates it.

I agree with you here. Even though it has been posted before there are newbies here that my not be aware. When it comes to safety related issues there in no such thing as old news in my opinion.
wow, truly scary!! i guess the fact that i only own a stick welder is responsible for my still being alive!!
it always has been that waste brakekleen goes into the same bin as waste oil, which sometimes goes into the fire... starting today that won't be the case any longer. hydrogen chloride is bad enough, don't want to know how much of that i've caught over the years in small doses, i can't imagine getting that other substance (whatever it was called, the one that almost killed him)!
repost or not, i hadn't seen it, and i'm sure this'll save me from myself once i get another welder!
FYI this refers to chlorinated brake cleen, not the other type. The chlorinated type comes in a green can and the other in the red.
I still wouldnt use it.
Ummm...I only buy the NON-chlorinated brake cleaner, and it has always come in a green can. Non-chlorinated brake cleaner won't attack rubber, so when you're hosing off brake or engine parts, it won't damage rubber vacuum hoses or brake lines. It's also great for cleaning off squealing serpentine belts with the engine off or running.
