Angry no heat

my 92 ford 150 with 5.0 heater has only luke warm heat. The heater core is ok and the thermistat is fine as well. I am wondering if maybe the heat door inside the heater plemium maybe warped. Has anyone here ever heard of this or maybe someone has another suggestion. Also has anyone ever changed this door, can it be changed inside the truck? thanks for any help.

Hi atving2,
Does the temperature gauge go up into the normal range?
If it does I would take a look at the temperature blend door cabel adjustment. You open up the glove box to get at the cable. I've seen quite a few that the cable needed adjusting so the door went to the full hot position. There is a spring clip sorta thing on the cable. You open it up and then push or pull the cable housing to adjust it. I've also seen pens etc dropped into the heater which made the door not close tight. You can remove the heater core cover from in behind the glove box too to look for something like that.

Hi dave, the temp. guage does run in the normal position. I tried to adjust the cable but it was in the correct possition. I also thought maybe a pen may have fallen into the heater but when I pulled the heater core cover off nothing. The heater blend door did look like it could be warped however, have anyone heard of this before?

With the cover off the heater core you should be able to tell if the blend door closes properly or if it is too warped to seal.
Have you checked to make sure your heater core isnt plugged?

I changed the heater core about 2 years ago. If you feel the two heater hoses coming off the heater core they do feel about the same temp. Also, they are hot not warm like the heat flowing out of the heater. I thought that the heater blend door did look like it wasn't sealing proper as though it was warped however it was hard to see. Can this door be changed on the vehicle or do I have to take the whole heater out of the truck?

I doubt you can change the blend door without pulling the dash off, but if it's possible at all, you'd do it by pulling the evaporator core from the engine compartment to get to the blend door. I'm about to post a pic to this album that shows it on my '96 parts truck.
