here is what im dealing with, my race truck (mud racing) has an e4od trasns and it will not shift from 2-3. i got a new vss that im ging to try and probbly my mlps is dirty. all this stuff is new to me and i never was a trans guy.
i read about the sensors and everything and in a thread i seen where a guy said if you unplug the electronics you will have R 1,2, &OD. that would suite me fine for my application, however i read there are pumps in these transmission and that line pressure and such would cause it to burn up with no pump.
so here are my question, in my races i run 4-5 minutes tops, but usually under 4 mins. it is at wot, is that to long with no pmp and will it burn the trans. up? or can i straight wire the pump and disconnnect the electronics. in both scenarios i would shift manually. of course my 1st choice is to get it working properly, but if i cant would either way be feasible?
another thought i have is finding and using a c6
sorry so long winded but wanted to explain and hope i did good enough to understand, thanks
The pump runs anytime the engine is turning. It's mechanical, not electrical. If the pump wasn't running none of the clutches would engage so all you would have would be park and neutral.
OK so what i got from that thread was that it will not mess up my trans, by running it without the electronics? i will have reverse, 2nd, and overdrive manually? i will try it at test and tunes and see if its what i'm looking for.1st out of the hole wouldnt be bad out of the hole so maybe i will try hook up a toggle switch to flip once i get going. i tried letting off the throttle and shifting manually but it would got to 3rd or od and i really could use some speed. maybe OD will cut it since i am running in 4 lo. thanks for the lead, any more suggestions please send them my way.
So as I read the thread it doesn't say what is the cause so thats is my question for mine it is strange it does intermitally i dont recall ever seeing a vehical just losing 3rd gear u know and that is even me working in the dealerships turning wrenches I have changed the fluid and filter and added the lucas additive and that did help some but this just stumps me and my buddy who also have turned wrenches in garages now I just wish I would have learned transmissons and how to rebuild and properly diagnose them
It isn't going to be very happy running no electronics with the shifter in the 1 position. That gives max pressure to the forward clutch and it can't handle it. I ran a truck that way once and blew the clutch apart, and that was with a stock engine. All other gears will be fine with it, just not 1.
