Potentially serious problem

I had to replace a brake line today on the driver side of my 99 F250 4x4. I removed the fuel tank to do so and when re-connecting the filler neck i accidently dropped a small screm down the tube. My question is will this hurt my fuel pump or anything else or will it not cause any problems?

the bottom of the sending unit, is a "duck" bill, which has a mesh scream inside of it. Dont think it'll get sucked up and into the fuel pump. I'd defintly though, get it out when you got time...drop/drain the tank.

If the screen on the pickup foot is still in place it will prevent any small objects from getting sucked into fuel line. If something gets by it there is a screen at the rear of the pump. It it gets this far it may cause a fuel restiction. I wouldn't worry. Chances of it getting out of the tank are very slim.

If you want, try taking a strong magnet on the outside of the tank to"catch" the screw. You may be able to get it positioned where you can put another magnet on a string and try fishing it out.......otherwise leave it.

You should be running at least a small in-line pre-pump filter, anyway.

That would certainly prevent anything getting sucked into the pump.

As long as you didn't do the prepump mods in the tank you should be good like the guys mentioned, that pickup foot should halt it right there. Ken's idea is a good one if its bothering you, it would me just knowing its in there.

Ot but did the line rust or something! I've never heard of having to replace a hard line but I guess if your up north or something the salt could get to it. Just curious.

What kind of screw was it? I wouldn't worry about it clogging anything up, but if it was a galvanized steel screw, you really don't want that in your tank. Stainless or mild steel is no problem.

Im pretty sure its not calvonized. It was one of the 3 screws that hold the filler tube to the truck bed.

That would be an excellent time to do the Hutch and Harpoon mods.
