You can keep your stock intake.

Heads are a definite uprade but you'll get far more gain from a cam change since the stock bumpstick is nowhere near big enough to fully utilize the flow potential of even the stock heads.

I am also getting a mild cam. just concern if i can use my stock intake manifold with the GT heads
I am also trying to understand the diference between the GT and the GTP.

If i use the GT head i can use my stock intake? what about the GTP? or which head is better for my application.

Thanks
JC

The P heads actually perform better but they have a radical spark plug angle that makes fitting headers difficult so the regular GT40s are recommended. The stock truck intake will work with these and any other SBF head no problem.
As for the cam you can't throw just anything in the motor it has to be SD EFI compatable, I suggest the Comp 35-512-8 since you have a roller motor there.

Make sure you budget for an aftermarket y-pipe/high-flow converter or some other exhaust changes in your plans. The factory y-pipe/converters are well known bottlenecks.

BTW.. GT40 heads were found on Gen1 5.8 Lightnings, '93-95 Cobra 5.0 Mustang, and '96-97.5 Explorer 5.0. GT40p heads appeared on '97.5-2000 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0 only.

That cam is good too, it will put the powerband a little higher up than the one I suggested but it's not far from the one I have(XE264HR) and that produces good power once the rpms are up.

Finally, I found a rebuilt set of GT40 heads at a machine shop. I check the casting to make sure they were GT. The truck is in the shop now. I am excited, any ideas of what kind of Hp/Tq gains with this set up? I have replaced the exhaust a while back and removed one cat.
GT40 heads and a cam

Thanks for the help and info

Have you driven the truck with that cam yet? If yes then you will see some power gains across the board from the heads, hard to say how much but it should be noticable.
If however you are going from a stock motor to one with the heads and cam then you're in for a quite a surprise.

Conanski, the GT40 heads that i got, I wasnt able to use. my mechanic said, it werent pollution heads and in other words he said the heads were to old for my set up. I am confuse. He also mention that if I wanted that he can get me a set of heads from an older model Lightning, 1992 and up and stated that these heads are better than the older GT40 heads. would these heads fit? what about my Intake, would it fit too.

What are the casting numbers off your heads? The only way they would be unusable is if they are vintage heads from the '60's or 70's, those don't have hardened valve seats and won't last with unleaded gas. The Gen1 Lightning had GT40 heads on it.. the same as what I though you had, and they probably won't have "smog ports" at the back either but that's no big deal just remove the smog system(air injection) from your truck if you don't need to do emission tests.
