Travellink is something that I use daily. One of my favorite features of my truck. Sync just extends your ipod, phone etc to your sound system via bluetooth or line in. Syncmyride will not allow traffic and destination with nav because you already have it built in. My dealer told me that sync is a free but syncmyride is a fee based service after a few years. Come to think of it he told me all kinds of bs till I signed. lol .... bottom line, sync is good, nav is better and makes syncmyride a non-issue, travellink was an unexpected cherry on top.
According to syncmyride.com, it is free for the first 3 years. doesnt say anything about fee's after that, but I'm sure not free.
Interesting thread as I've been attempting to activate Sync to get the traffic, directions, etc and it won't work on my truck (have nav).
It seems as though those that don't have the nav, get to utilize this added functionality and those that do have the nav, don't get those features. Maybe those that use it can post up whether or not they have the nav (some already have but maybe it'll be a better indicator). I didn't see anything in the order guide about a watered down version of Sync for those who have the nav but that seems to be the case.
Seems ridiculous to me as I'd like to get rid of Travellink if I could use the extra Sync features for free. If the traffic, directions part of Sync is going to be a pay service eventually then maybe it's moot.
Man, I thought I knew about the NAV system but now I'm wondering. I had both SYNC functioning, SRIUS radio, and Travellink functioning at the same time.
Ford Sync Services runs through the cell phone, using data minutes. It will give you turn-by-turn directions, traffic reports, weather, ect. Sirius travellink gives weather, traffic, but does not give any directions. The built in navigation system does that. The Sirius travellink also does not use a cellphone at all for operation. Both Ford Sync Services and Sirius travellink will cost money to use. The Sirius travellink is approx $60yr, but does not give you navigation. The navigation radio does that. The Ford Sync Services also costs $60yr, but requires a cellphone and data plan for use. From what the dealer told me the Sirius travellink and built-in navigation is head and shoulder superior to Ford Sync Services. But no one knows if you get both Ford Sync Services and Sirius Travellink with a navigation radio.
My Sync is free - I only use it for handsfree bluetooth cell and I use it for syncing music from my bluetooth devices to my factory audio system. It work great....

But do you have Sync Services? Can you give a command of "Services"?
you *can* have Microsoft Sync and Sirus Travellink in your truck at the same time. In fact, everyone who has Travellink ALSO has Sync.
On NAV units, the Sirius Travellink supplants the "services" piece of MS Sync, but does not affect the rest of its features.
On NON-NAV units, there is no travellink, so Sync retains it's "services" feature.
Those are the facts... my *opinion* is that travellink is the better service. It works anywhere you can see the sky, and it has better info. I do enjoy many of the features of Sync (in spite of the fact that it's a Microsoft product), but I do not need the "services" piece.
Also, I think the nav system is pretty good. It's definitely better than the one I had in my 2007 Toyota Tundra (which seems identical to the one in a 2011 Toyota Sienna my stepmother drives). The one in my wife's 2011 Explorer is somewhat different from mine... she has a bigger screen and what seems like a more mature but very similar UI. The biggest issue I have with hers is the fact that I can't seem to make it "default" to the nav screen, or any version that contains nav info. On my truck, the "home" screen is configurable to contain whatever features I like. When you turn the truck on, that home screen is what you get. no further input necessary. On my wife's, the home screen does not appear to be configurable. one click brings up nav... but I'd prefer it to always be there
