Ford Sync

Is it possible to have both Ford Sync and Sirius Travellink, or just the Sirius Tavellink? My 2011 truck has a navigation unit and nobody (including the dealer and a Ford rep) knows if the truck is missing the Ford Sync or Ford Sync doesnt come with the truck.

I don't think they are related, I have the sync that works as a hands free for the cell phone and travel link that is part of the navigation and tells you weather forecasts and accidents along your route. You should have both.

Good question. I never tried it out to see if both work. Simple enough to try. Just ask sync for services and see what options it offers. I remember somethng in the ordering guide that said the sync was watered down with the nav.

everyone who tried the "services" command got "Sirius" in reply. There also is a option missing in the phone module.

Not sure that I understand the question.

When I tell the sync lady "services" (or other commands) it dials out on the phone and I can get traffic, directions, etc.....

A way to check it is put the phone down on the console (or someplace that you can see it) and you will notice that the command "wakes up" the phone and dials out.

I can go to syncmyride website and see what the traffic is on a planned/programmed route from the laptop.

BUT, I don't have navigation.

I just recently ordered a 6.7 with nav and dont quite understand how its going to work. So if I ask for services it will give me travelink? Then I tell them my destination and it enters it into my nav. Couldnt you enter it into your nav yourself? What are you gaining from letting travelink know your destination?

I would also like to know how the nav works. Some I like better than others. On my Honda you can bring up the map them move the cursor to where you want to go and click. Have used this a few times and it can be helpful.

I would like to find a site that describes in detail how the sync/travel link/nav work and work together.

My next mission......
Here is a sync site, I really want detailed nav info, will look...

Really? So we pay $1800 more and get less features? Is the government involved in this nav situation?

I tried to register on the website syncmyride for the weather, traffic,... but the website says that sync services could not be used on my truck. The travellink is part of Sirius radio and not part of sync services. This is the part that has the dealer and the Ford rep. stumped. So I thought I would ask others who have a navigation radio if they could use both Sirius travellink and Sync Services on their trucks.

Ok, so I have a question. First a statement....LOL I just picked up my new 2011 F250 SRW Lariat last week. Love the truck, much, much improved over the 6.0 I was driving. Anyway on the Sync, It appears that the nav part of sync also runs through your cell phone and bluetooth, if so is your phone charged data transfer? I have used the hands free and it works fine. I don't have data on my phone, so wasn't sure if sync would work. Don't need a bunch of data charges.
Now it appears on here that sync may run through Siruis, if that is true then disregard the question becasue I am not goign to pay to listen to the radio. Too easy to set a GPS on the dash. Would still like to know just how the travel portion of Sync works though.

Thanks

I'm not really sure what the conclusion is here but after 8 months in my truck I can tell you that Sirius does nothing whatsoever through my cell phone.

And I have never messed with SYNC for anything but music, hands free phone. I can use my iPhone via bluetooth, access iTunes library and Pandora radio wirelessly. Any phone with bluetooth can do the same as long as it is a SmartPhone of some kind.

Ford Sync Services runs through the cell phone, using data minutes. It will give you turn-by-turn directions, traffic reports, weather, ect. Sirius travellink gives weather, traffic, but does not give any directions. The built in navigation system does that. The Sirius travellink also does not use a cellphone at all for operation. Both Ford Sync Services and Sirius travellink will cost money to use. The Sirius travellink is approx $60yr, but does not give you navigation. The navigation radio does that. The Ford Sync Services also costs $60yr, but requires a cellphone and data plan for use. From what the dealer told me the Sirius travellink and built-in navigation is head and shoulder superior to Ford Sync Services. But no one knows if you get both Ford Sync Services and Sirius Travellink with a navigation radio.

Travellink is something that I use daily. One of my favorite features of my truck. Sync just extends your ipod, phone etc to your sound system via bluetooth or line in. Syncmyride will not allow traffic and destination with nav because you already have it built in. My dealer told me that sync is a free but syncmyride is a fee based service after a few years. Come to think of it he told me all kinds of bs till I signed. lol .... bottom line, sync is good, nav is better and makes syncmyride a non-issue, travellink was an unexpected cherry on top.
