I just got a 78 F250 4x4 supercab with a stock 400 and 4 speed manual trans....the truck is stock height and standard tires. The gears are I believe 3.40's...what type of performance and fuel mileage should I expect?
I see you are somewhat new to FTE.. Welcome.. It probably depends on what shape the truck is in, there is a whole bunch of aspects to look at on how well it will perform and what mileage it gets, what shape is the driveline is, so much more comes into play.. plus it all depends on how you drive it too. You might get anywhere between 6-16 mpg or something like that but, theres only one way to find out for sure....
yeah....I will need to check the gears.....but I am sure they are not 3;73's or 4;10's. at about 60-65 mph the truck is running around 1800 to 1900 rpm's.
The metal tag on the door will have an axle code. Three digits, two for rear axle, one digit for front axle. Post these numbers and we can tell you what gearing you have, if it's the original gears
