I would also like to add that I have used carb cleaner for everything, from cleaning carbs to degressing engines and even killing black widow spiders (spraying them dosent hurt them untill you light a match) but keep in mind it is very very flamable, just ask a few spiders.

Speaking of vacuum gauges...where can one find one for a reasonable price? Every time I search online for one, I end up in the $100-$300 range. Surely that isn't the going rate, is it? I'd be satisfied with a simple dial guage, if it were reasonably accurate.

They are all over Amazon for $20.00 or so. That's where I got mine. Here's the link of the one I got:

I just bought one at Autozone for $30. Seems like decent quality for a home garage.
