Anyone install a front bumper step?
Several years ago my brother had a lifted F250. He hated having to get a stool or ladder just to check the oil, etc. The ambulance company he was working for at the time had installed fold down license plate steps on the front of their trucks. He had years of use from his until the truck was destroyed.
Anyway, the steps are still available for about $100. However, I just received my new license plates and was really disappointed in the cheesy plastic "bracket" Ford has provided for the front plate mounting. Not only did I have to modify it to fit since I wanted a chrome frame around the plate, but it just snaps onto/into the bumper with no solid mount.
I'd like to put a step on the front, but I'm afraid the step won't have anyway to mount to the bumper since there are no holes to bolt your plate on to, and I don't think I want to drill through the bumper especially with many of you cold weather guys complaining about rust already.
So, any ideas? Has anyone installed any kind of a booster step for us short guys? Absent the license plate step idea, I'm thinking the only other option would be a 2" received tube and one of those JC Whitney type steps, but that's going to be way more that $100, and it might not look too good either......... Thoughts??
Best Regards,
Tom
