Recently took my truck to have the beams bent (alignment off) and new tires put on. The mechanic said it looked like I was missing a crossmember from underneath my transmission, said that it should tie in to the radius arm brackets on the frame...Not sure I believe him. There is a cross member that has the Transmission mount on it about a foot behind the radius arm brackets, directly behind the fluid pan and drive axle...but nothing between that one, and the mount to the engine at the oil pan. Is that the only one? Or am I really missing another support under the transmission? Like I said, he said that it attaches to the radius arm brackets that are bolted/riveted(whats up with that) to the frame. Any pictures, or help would be great
I believe he is right ,just going by how all three of my 79s are. Crossmember from bracket to bracket.,i believe it is to keep the frame from twisting from the stress the bars put on it. JIM
Yes there is supposed to be a cross member bolted in there between them. It bolts to the radius arm brackets and to the frame.
Does your truck have headers installed? A previous owner may have taken it out to get the headers in there and never put it back.
