I have an 85 F150 With the 300 straight six. The truck has a brand new alternator but it wont charge the battery which is brand new and the 3rd one in the last month. When i disconect the battery while the truck is running it dies.. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
Sounds like the regulator is not getting it sense feed. And you can fry the alternator by disconnecting it. Computers get killed easily that way as well.
Is it the one with the rectangular plug with 2 big wires and and 1 small one? Those plugs are known to burn out. Could be fusible links at the starter solenoid also. When they burn out the wire inside melts but leaves the insulation intact. Pull on them to see if they are stretchy.
Does the internal voltage regulator plug on the ALT have 2 wire or 3 wires.
If 2 wires, does the new ALT have a note with it in the box that states it must uses all 3 inputs to the voltage regulator.
It seems the newer style voltage internal regulator that are being used as these ALT are being overhauled are different than the original ones that would work with 2 input wires.
