The only issue is that you can't really paint it unless you use paint specific to plastic, and even then I'm not sure it would look good. I didn't plan on painting mine, and I covered it in 1/4" foam, and then black vinyl. I think it came out pretty good.
Anyway, it's another option to consider.
My customers paint plastic everyday. Almost every car on the road today has some kind of painted plastic on it (bumper/trim). Different plastics are prepped differently but the same paint goes on it. We also have an interior converter for our basecoats.
