Need to check the vin on the cab to see if there's a lein or anything but you should be able to apply for a duplicate title to match the cab. Check with your dmv or maybe if you tell us what state you are in someone else can add.
first thing he needs to do is check the frame numbers, sounds like someone changed cabs on it,here they go by the frame numbers if cabs have been changed so get a wire brush and some sandpaper and more than likely the frame matches the title or someone changed it over to a 1/2 ton
It's either an F100 or F150 underneath. Two measurments that might help narrow it down are the wheel lug spacing and rear leaf spring widths. If you have 5 x 4.5 inches wheels, it's an F100. If the spacing is 5 x 5.5 inches its likely an F150. Spring width on the F100 is generally 2.5 inches, but it can be bigger, If the spring width is 3 inches its most likely an F150.
The lug pattern for a F100 IS the same as an F150, if the truck had manual brakes. Power brakes on an F100 got the smaller lug pattern. The manual brake trucks need the bigger rottors to help with stoping.

This (what size brake & hub assemblies went on what models of trucks) was talked
about here some not real long ago (say, within the last 12 or so months) and it's in the
archives somewhere. I believe some of the major players were:
It'll be on the top of the passenger side frame rail just past where the rail straightens behind the front wheel. You may need a small mirror to see it.
