well guys i want to spray liner inside me cab on the floor and all underneath my truck, up the fire wall and all over the engine bay.
the way it sit now is i have completly striped and sand blasted and im working on the cab now its ready for paint but i want to get the liner on first since it is still raw metal.
so my question is has anyone used this stuff and has any coments or suggestions. and also and prep advice i have seen everything so just spray it on to roughing up to 80 grit. also i replaced the floors and they still have there black sealer on them that came with them, does that need to go. the kit i was looking at was from eastwood
the black epd coating is good stuff just scuff it with a red scotch brite so the liner can bite to it .
as for the bare metal i would spray some self etching primer or epoxy primer on it to seal it before spraying the liner .
well i stopped by the local supply store and was checking out prices and it seems that gator guard might be the option. they told me that gator and raptor bedliner was my best bet, but the kits they sell are pushing three hundred and to top it off the gator kit was the only one that had enough product to do my intire project. so back to what you said mike, they told me only bare metal ruffed up to 80 grit but there is supposed to be a youtube step by step video for gator so ill check it out. but need less to say that a crazy high price.
Raptorliner only runs about $120 a kit(gallon). Carefull shopping and you can get it for $99 and each comes with it's own gun. I've been pleased with it.
Gator Guard is an epoxy I believe. Shake & Shoot, Hippo, and Raptor are Urethanes. The epoxy might be fine over bare metal, but you should definitely spray an epoxy primer down first before any of the urethane ones. If you scratch a urethane liner down to the bare metal and it rusts, the rust will continue to creep and get larger. As far as the actual liner, Gator Guard looks different the the other liners. I did some panels with it a long time ago when it came out and it looked nothing like the lineX look we wanted out of a do it yourself kit. Raptor looks almost exactly like LineX, maybe a little glossier. I have Raptor in my Bronco and am really pleased with it. I used a full kit and 1 extra quart and did the whole tub inside, front to back with the sides. Shake and shoot is maybe a little cheaper, but it looks odd. It looks like a heavy Rhino Liner.
well I ended up spraying about two weeks ago , and was very pleased with how it turned oout sprayed on easy....dried nicely , and looks great . I think it will last a long time. only thing I would recomend is a mask and some rubber gloves cause it dont come off skin !
The brand of epoxy primer that I am using is SPI. The price is good and the quality is excellent. I used a $50 spray gun set that I got at Harbor Freight. I bought this set to practice and teach myself how to spray with. I haven't decided if I will paint the truck myself or not yet. Here is a picture and some links;
