There are major differences in ELC coolants. Not all are designed for use in diesel engines and the "ELC" title does not mean the coolant meets a certain "standard" as far as compatibility with your engine.

For use in a 6.0, you need to make sure that the ELC you choose is:
1. A coolant designed for use in a diesel engine
2. Phosphate and silicate free
3. Meets Cat EC-1 or International/Navistar BM-1 specifications

I just played this game and spent a great deal of time reading here on FTE and elsewhere about the issue. The best info I found is on this site. Search "Rotella ELC" and you will get a ton of reading.

Perhaps one of the most helpful threads is the following:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...my-6-0l-2.html

Finding 100% concentrate of any ELC local proved challenging. I was able to locate Rotella Ultra ELC at the local IH truck dealer. If your making the switch, pay for the right stuff. Being cheap about it will be very expensive in the end!

Enjoy!

How much was the Prestone? Four gallons of Cat ELC was nearly $100 here.

When I was searching for coolant, I had parts counter staff at two large truck sales/repair facilities explain they no longer carry 100% concentrate due to cost. They only order it in when they need it for a specific job. Apparently, even some of their suppliers are doing the same thing for whatever reason.

I spent the $$ for the Rotella at the only place I could find it in this hemisphere and it really hurt. I was going to order it online but the shipping costs made it just as expensive!

I looked online for ELC but the shipping was high. I found Rotella locally but they only sold it by the case (6 gallons) which if IRCC was about $150. Even the International dealer only had 50/50 in stock!

My local NAPA told me dex-cool was my best option. So... after trying to explain to dex-cool norman that wasn't what I wanted, I left frustrated and forgot NAPA! LOL

You pretty much need to ignore most of what auto parts store employees say... Most can't wipe their @$$ without looking it up in the computer.
