With an EGR delete the coolant is "stressed" much less but it still sees some pretty high temps in the oil cooler. The good old green coolant is still a no-go. It's based on a silicate that actually falls out of suspension just sitting in the bottle on the store self. Guaranteed to stop up the oil cooler eventually. At a minimum you'll want an ELC. Many of these coolants have a small amount of silicate in them and will not have the CAT EC-1 rating on the bottle. In my opinion, these coolants are "OK" but not the best choice. A coolant with the CAT rating will be silicate free and is the proper coolant for our trucks.

X2 on what Rusty said, the EGR cooler see's a lack of flow because the oil cooler clogs, and the green junk will clog the oil cooler. The oil cooler itself can still rupture if it get's bad enough.

Why mess with it? Distilled water, ELC, 100k miles of non-issues.

Interesting, do you happen to know what his temp spread is (EOT/ECT)?

When I first got my scan gauge I put it in his truck to show him he had a plugged cooler more than likely.interesting enough the were only 11 degrees apart.also it does a lot of setting I think it only has 126 thousand miles.

A guy I used to work with often said "there's an exception to every rule". But then again, he often said "Ah ha! She cried knowingly as she lifted her wooden leg" a lot too so is hard to say exactly how smart he was . I'd be willing to bet the truck has never been overheated either.

As far as overheating I don't think so but ford did have to replace the transmission under warranty.so it's not completely trouble free.lol
