Lightbulb looking into a new intake!

I have a 04 FX4 and was looking into a cold air intake but not sure which brand I should get. Would like peoples input on which one I could get best for the money and performance.

You will probably need a custom tune to run a CAI on a 04.The 04 PCM had a lean fuel map so they don't react well to CAIs.Without a custom tune it will most likely throw a check engine light and run dangerously lean which can lead to bad things.

So would it be worth all the trouble to custom tune it for the CAI?

CAI's are really not worth the trouble or money to begin with.

oh programmers are worth the money but you may need to get one with a custom tune on it. maybe someone will chime in on if the stock edge tune will fix the lean issue or not and i have a cheap ($170) specter CAI and it has been great for the last 20-30k miles and makes the truck sound so much better.

With your Specter CAI did you have to do any custom tuning and I'll have to see if the Edge have a custom tune.

no mine worked fine but the 04's do have a lean issue so i would get the custom tune first but with edge they make canned tunes and you can have other companys like
Power Hungry Performance - Gryphon™
customize it for your mods and driving style and thats what you may need

So just to make sure I have this right I could get the Gryphon programmer and still get a CAI?

yes, just tell them what you have and they fine tune it to work well with the CAI. i have just a stock edge tune but people with the custom tunes swear they are the only way to go.

The Edge Evo, CTS, and CS are designed and meant for stock trucks.

Skip the warmer-air-than-stock-under-the-hood-bling and do the Gotts mod.

For added performance, look into an SCT XCAL3 or Livewire or a Gryphon CS or CTS with custom tunes.

Agreed, I've had many on different cars and they seem to make a slight difference, but not worth big money... I'd stay cheap if I just had to do it.

I am very happy with my X3 SCT programmer linked to my S&B CAI. The combination is great and Mike @ 5 Star Tuning does an awesome job.
