Goodbye 2007, Hello 2011
Goodbye 2007, Hello 2011
Well, I finally went and traded my trusty old 2007 Lariat in for an even better 2011 FX4.
Old

New

After less then 1 hour in the driveway, I've already installed my old Truxedo Low Pro QT (it doesn't fit perfect, but will work) and swapped the OEM lights for Silverstars.

When doing the lights, I noticed the drivers side has a rubber protector sheild between the fog lamp area and the head lamp area. But the passenger side doesn't. I wonder if they left it out on mine or if this is normal.
Time to make the payments.....

I couldn't help posting my new truck here and there.
I think a Fisher HT would be a great choice on this truck. Will I do it, not sure. I will be calling Fisher to talk with their engineers to see what I can learn. I did see the highlighted section within the owners guide saying very specifically Ford does not recommend a plow on a F150. I think the EPS is likely the reason, but at this point. I'm just speculating. For the remainder of this winter, my P.O.S. snowblower parts are in so I can fix it up for the remaining storms. Man, do I hate snowblowing....

I just traded my 2010 xlt supercrew 4x4 5.5bed for a 2011 FX4 supercrew 4x4 6.5 bed I think the FX4 has a much better ride. Don't know if it is because the wheel base is a foot longer but I can definitly feel the difference.
The ride in my 11 is very twitchy and doesn't feel as well controlled as my 07 did. I do like it, but it needs improvement. On my 07 I ran 275/70-18 E range Silent Armours and Bilstein HD struts/shocks. I am one who prefers the firmer ride they offer.
I kept my 07 Lariat wheels with the SA's. I'm going to throw them on the truck tomorrow to see if tires alone make any improvements. One things for sure the stock tires just look too short compared to the 275/70's. I'm confident that I will be ordering up a new set of Bilstein HD's too.

I was wondering what your opinion was because I had a 07 XLT 4X4 and my '10 seems to have a stiffer ride. I wasnt sure if its because its a newer truck or the FX4 shocks made the difference. I do like the ride quality better.
Been kinda wondering about this too. This new '11 XLT 4x4 seems to be a bit stiffer over my daily commute route compared to how the '06 XLT 4x4 was. Not a huge difference but, it is noticeable on some of the rougher sections (FWIW it doesn't bother me). Couldn't decide if it was just the difference between a new truck with new shocks versus a 5 yr old truck with 5 yr old shocks.
Didn't Ford do more frame upgrades between the 04-08's and the 09-11's? I think they've added more rigidity or torsional stiffness to the new one's. I believe that's where most of the difference is coming from. For me, I was ready to by a 1 ton so the F150 ride wasn't really a factor other then it doesn't feel as controlled as my 07 did. But I base that on my 07's better strut/shocks (Bilsteins) and the much better Silent Armours.
I'm finding I'm somewhat dissapointed in the low end performance of the 5.0 and 3.73's. Being a somewhat conservative driver, I'm finding my 07 and my wife's 08 4.6 3V 6 speed Exploder are peppier under slow speed and light acceleration. I posted this same comment in another thread, but haven't returned to see if it's just me or if others have noticed this. But, if you step down just a little more and walla the thing flies. But that's not going to help the mpg much. Tank # 2 is already hovering in the 15 range. Still better then the 12 of my 07 but not the higher numbers others are getting. And to think I shyed away from the 1 ton to avoid fuel issues. Hmm, maybe it wasn't the best decision afterall...
