Does removing the foil increase the noise level in the cab? I don't care of for the way the insulation looks, but I want this thing quieter, not louder.

You'll here a slightly louder turbo whistle with the foil removed.

I left mine the polished aluminum.

Yes, you will hear the more of the turbo spooling with the foil removed. What it does is deaden the sound of the turbo through the hot IC pipe by insulating it.

Removing the pipe takes only a few minutes, but can take longer depending on what intake you have.

Removing the foil takes about 10-15 minutes, removing the the aftermath of the glue and insulation takes 45-60 minutes. I used a torch to singe all of the insulation down and then just used plastic scrapers to remove the glue. It came off pretty easy. Some use WD-40 and a wire wheel too. Once you get the majority off a few wipe downs with lacquer thinner or toluene will remove all the glue, then just reassemble.

I did mine in about 45 min total, used gloves to pull the foil (its actually pretty sharp), and then a wire brush (or wire wheel would work well too) and sprayed it with PB Blaster, worked like a charm. Might have to let the PB soak in a bit before you start going at it with the wire brush. Also, if you're going to paint it make sure you rough up the pipes before you paint them and also wipe them down with some mineral spirits or alcohol. That should remove any of the PB or any trace amounts of oil. Also, when I did this modification I also found out that there was A LOT of oil sitting in the pipes as well as in the intake and return ports of the intercooler. I would recomend doing the CCV mod to remove the pesky problem. After a while it makes quite a mess. When painting the pipes make sure you get a high heat paint that will take the engine temps and if you're doing the spider make sure you clogg up the boots on the engine so nothing falls in there. Easiest way I found to painting the parts was to put a piece of string thru the pipes/spider and tie a screwdriver to the end and suspend it from the rafters in the garage and use tape to cover all the necessary holes.

Started out as a simple reply lol. Hope this helps.
