Cold Start Issues

Since my last oil/fuel filter change (2 weeks ago), she has been starting rough when cold. She's missing, chugging, and and when I try to drive her down the road it feels like limp mode. When she's warmed up though, all normal! I know its not in limp mode though, she's just not firing on all cylinders. I get two codes that come up on my scanner, but they do not exist (P0276 & U6038). I use my Bully Dog Triple Dog Downloader to pull the codes. I know its giving me the wrong codes though. Can anyone shed some light, of help me troubleshoot this thing. Also, plugging her up doesn't help anymore, its like she's not even plugged in!

Thanks
Jay

Info:
195,561 miles, Bully Dog Triple Dog Downloader, 3 in Exhaust, no check engine lights on, blows blue smoke on the missing cylinders, then black when accelarating (when cold only). During cold, boost is normal, temps are normal, and she cranks fine, just starts weird. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

1. What oil?
2. How often do you change your oil
3. What have you used in the past? Filters?

Sounds like you maybe experiencing injector stiction.

I discovered this problem with my truck right after an oil change.

Do you have the latest Ford flash with Induction heating? What kind of oil are you using and did you change to a different brand/type. Things to do to reduce stiction effects is to upgrade your flash to the induction heating from Ford, purchase 2 bottles of Rev X, or change to a 5w-40 synthetic oil on your next oil change.

Good luck...

If you experience what appear to be stiction (white smoke slow accel) right after a cold start but not the initial puff of white smoke that is normal--- the white smoke as you are going...

This happen if you are warm, shut engine, and then come back out in 15 min.

Rev it (floor it) once will often clear the problem.

Don't ask me how / why.

Suspects: stiction, turbo issue (suspect lack of oil pressure or time needed to build op?)

The oil I use is Rotella T Full Synthetic, I normally change oil and filter ever 5,000 miles.

I've looked at the no-start checklist, but it doesn't apply to my situation because she starts, just misses and runs like crap when cold.

I ran injector cleaner before I changed oil and fuel filter. She ran great when it was in, filled up before oil and filter change (still running fine), after the change, she still ran fine then 2 days later when the weather got colder that's when she started doing this.

No white smoke, but a blueish smoke when she finally fires, then goes away right afterwards.

all kinds of seals and o rings on the high pressure oil side, and in the injectors. no real evidence that seafoam is friendly to them( or that its eats them either). however considering the complexity of the oil system compared to a non HEUI engine, I'm fairly cautious about oil additives. it may have washed stuff loose, from dirt that was helping the seals to dirt that increased the oil contamination

PO276 is Injector #6 circuit low input.

I had almost exactly the same issues you're having, and almost identical mileage. My bully dog outlook monitor was giving me 8 injector codes, (all voltage low), and a few U codes that didn't exist. I tried diesel kleen and switched to rotella t6 5w, none of it really helped.

It ended up being the FICM. Got it replaced last week and it runs awesome now. No codes and it fires right up without the block plugged in every morning.

I would check your FICM voltage.
