Hi,
I was changing #6 spark plug on a 4.9 300 and accidentally seem to have disconnected a Ground cable that is connected to one of the bolts at the wiper motor. It is about 1 1/2 feet long and is about 10 gauge and is black. Where does the other end connect??
Wiper motor is working fine which is where I thought this was connected to. Truck does not start and I don't know if this is why!
I can't offer you any immediate help, but if you have any way to post a picture, that could help us figure it out. Even if it's only of the area where you think it broke loose.
Right... I finally found the original location of this wire, which reads Ford all along.
It goes from one of the bolts on the wiper motor base to the engine block right above the oil pan on the driver's side. The socket was still on the block but the wire had been pulled, surely when the body was lifted.
Thanks
The body ground on my truck goes from the manifold to the firewall and this wire is braided and silver.
This wire seems to be an additional ground from the engine to the wiper motor area. But you guys are the experts.
The engine had been missing throughout driving speed range and I figured it might have been an ignition issue, which it was. I checked the cables and #6 was having trouble (you could see its current on the outside in the dark), swapped the cable and problem persisted, so I decided to change #6 spark plug. Once I did this, the truck started and the engine ran well, it was not missing anymore, but now it ran at extremely low RPM ... and then after starting it again, it died. I cleared my head and a couple of days later I decided to get under the truck and found this new problem (coincidence... go figure) the fuel pump cable was disconnected. Once I plugged it back in, truck ran like a charm... It's been over a week now and it is running perfectly!.
