I have a 03 E-350SD and I'd like to disable the key in ignition and door open chime if possible. I was hoping it was just a fuse, but something tells me it's more involved. I'm always working on the truck and often need power. The chime can be torture. I'd eliminate them all if I could. The only worthy one is the lights on buzzer. I have an aftermarket stereo if that means anything. Thanks.
My chime stopped working a while back and it bothered me somewhat----the headlights still on warning mostly. Initially I thought the key-in-ignition would be helpful but quickly became very annoying.
You can indeed disable the key-in feature but it entails removing the door pin switch signal that triggers it at the chime itself. Get an EVTM for your year, locate the chime module and cut the wire. Naturally make sure wire ends are taped or otherwise protected from short circuits etc.
My chime was located basically left and below the radio, a black module measuring maybe 3 x 3 x 1 that is attached to a strut with a clip, five wire connector leading into it. Removing the left side lower trim panel just below the steering column helps in seeing it---leave the key in and it should be very easy to find.
