So Johns still hasnt gotten the brackets in yet so i cant yet say how the quality is. however i wont be using the set of brackets i ordered for a while because the bumper NPD sent was severely bent so i returned it (luckily they have a warehouse in Ventura). I picked up an old stepbumper off a guy in town that i will be using till i can pull an original off of a truck.
ya im gonna have to do a alot of looking around. there arent many of these old trucks around here that are being parted out and no trucks this old in our junkyards. the parts trucks i have found have all had step bumpers so i picked one up to protect the bed of the truck but im gonna get rid of it once i find a bumper to chrome
Welcome to the fun Of Southern California! I have been Bumper searching for a very long time to no avail... The junk yard find In So Cal is very rare, I have even been looking at late model step bumpers as a fill in, but lately I am thinking of rocker pan, and shaved tailgate instead of a bumper... It is a clean look, but affords no rear protection from the So Cal tailgaters. I have a bumper currently, but it is a very large and very heavy step bumper, I repainted it and put new Lic Plate lights on it, but it is the size of a small patio..
When I get to the time I need a rear bumper Im thinking of modifying my bumper and mounts to bring them in closer to the truck. Maybe cut the diamond plate off the top and just keep the frame move the frame mounts down the frame and redrill. I dont know it might not look to bad. Im not even close to that time though. Just kind of thinking out loud. Good luck with yours Ill be watching your progress there and looking for the stock rear factory bumper Ill let you know if I stumble on to any up here in Washington.

Hey Bill Im unsure about what you mean when you say channel. Are you refering to channel iron as in the pic. Sorry for crappy pic only one I have of my two step bumpers.
Thanks for the numbers of the brackets to go with the types of bumpers. I will save this post to my favorites for future use.

Channel bumper: Straight across, no indentation in the center (similar to above) for a license plate like the contoured rear bumpers had. Flaresides used channel rear bumpers from 1948 thru at least 1979.
The above is an aftermarket step bumper. Ford did not offer a step bumper until 1967 and it looked totally different.

These brackets do not fit 1957/63 F100/250 Stylesides with painted channel rear bumper / Do not fit 1957/66 F350.
All rear bumpers were optional thru 1979, so it's anyone's guess what bumper the truck may have or...if it's genuine Ford...or not.
Numberdummy, the 57/63 stylesides came with both the contoured and channel rear bumper? Was the channel rear bumper the same as what was used on the stepsides?
