Do you know what codes are there , and you can get a new turbo for 1200 or so and install it yourself in 4 or 5 hours. It might just need cleaning, just did mine. If you go to my albums i posted pics of cleaning mine. I would not let them touch it till you can get the codes pulled. Go autozone they will read them for you. Get them post back

Another thing you need to check is the EBP sensor and tube located on/next to the drivers side valve cover. The tube could be clogged (fairly common) not giving the sensor a correct reading. It's a fairly easy removal and cleaning procedure (much easier than the turbo), but I agree your turbo probably needs cleaning also. Do you get a "chuf chuf chuf" noise from the aircleaner when you accelerate hard and quickly let off the go pedal?

p0299 can come from far more things then a turbocharger issue. the search function will net alot of stuff to check.

A P0299 Turbo Underboost code can set by numerous causes, namely a leak on the intake side between the turbo, charge air cooler and intake, a biased or improperly functioning EBP sensor, a leak on the exhaust side between the exhaust manifold and turbo up-pipe to the turbo, a restricted exhaust or restricted (plugged up) intake and a stuck VGT unison ring. Now your job is to pinpoint which of the above is causing the code to set. Previously posted by M-Chan.

Not to mention the previously posted by M-Chan when I had to leave the computer--LOL--but it was the best comprehensive list I could find on short notice.

I actually had no idea there were so many concerns to look for in a P0299 and not sure I even get that code on my 04? Besides searching through a lot of posts and threads, is there something in the tech folder that directly deals with a P0299 (catch all) or something you clould help me could write up?

tim you get a different code for under boost but its the same basic code. I just dont remeber what the code is... I wanna say its a p13?? dtc but not sure.
p0299 is are basic nightmare code. the gas guys could equate it with a random misfire nightmare code.
But if you wana give me a call I can walk you threw the p0299 basic checks. in short if it effects fuel, egr or back pressure it can cause a p0299.
