Hey all, bought my 2006 f150 supercrew 4x4 new in 2006. Added a 6 inch lift and 35s but have always gotten around 14 mpg. It now has 48k on it, and suddenly the mileage has fallen to around 8 mpg. I don't want to go to the one ford dealer within 50 miles unprepared and dump hundreds of dollars into their useless diagnostics opinions...(can you tell I dont really trust these guys?) Anyone had a similar problem or any ideas? Thanks
One of the main reasons for recent loss of mileage is the constant increase in Ethonal in the gasoline. Here in PA it seems like they keep raising the %. The other suggestion would be to do what I call a stage 0 service. Cover all your maintenance as far as filters, Plugs, Throttle body cleaning, O2 sensors, Etc. Just make sure you have serviced all the main items before you take it in to be looked at. You don't have any codes for sensors do you?
From what I've read on here, cleaning the VCT solonoids would be a good shot too. By the way, Welcome to the forum. Don't be a stranger, there are a lot of questions on here about lift kits and tire sizes that you may be able to help with. You don't say where you are from but your not carring around a bed full of snow are you? LOL Oh, pull the dip stick and check for gas smell. there have been issues with injectors not closing which may be a warrenty issue.
Yeah there is a little snow in the bed but I havent noticed any real change in the power. It seems like the same truck as always...except when I look down at the MPGs. I can be coasting down a grade and bump the reset button on the dash it comes back at about 8 and half...It used to be over twenty in that situation. I dont have a code reader but the idiot lights have never come on. Sounds like I just need to get some maintenance done this weekend and see what happens. Thanks to all of the responders
yeah that would be a good idea, i was just wondering about the cats with the power question because the will throw the O2's off and that will kill MPG fast
mark you could try a new fuel filter on there, they are around $8 at autozone. don't forget the 5/16 quick disconnect tool if you plan on doing that. I just changed mine out at 67k and I've noticed a bump in mpg.

Are you only going by the computer read out? Have you checked actual MPG mathmaticly?
I had close to the same thing happen and I tried everything everybody is telling you and it didn't get any better, but I changed my tranny filter and had it flushed, and i got three miles a gallon better.
