running on a warmed up engine, the choke plate should be full open. you may have disturbed the high idle cam.

ok, the truck is running at 180 degrees the fast idle spring is turned all the way out, the two adjusters on the front of the carb are turned almost all the way in. the choke is wide open, truck still running way high it came down a little but not much, and it smells like its burning a lot of gas..
do i need to let it run for a while? or should i start checking for vacuum leaks? if so whats the best way to go about that i live in a old people neighborhood and they are not happy about a 351 with custom exhaust screaming at 2000 rpm all morning

Try turning the idle mixture screws all the way in. This should kill the engine.

If it doesn't, then the main circuit is delivering fuel when it shouldn't be.
The needle (or whatever Edelbrock calls them) is not choking off the jet.

with the two mixture screws turned all the way in its idling at almost 1400 rpms and smells real rich. When i put it in gear with the screws turned all the way in it idles around 900.

The people that had it before me had the awesome Idea to hook up an electric fuel pump under the frame to a kill switch mounted under the fender would that have anything to do with it? Where would the needle be located, is it something i can do myself?

instructions say to never have more than 6.5 psi at the inlet.
Do you know what pressure you're running?

I linked the instructions....

With an Edelbrock everything is accessible from the top.

Yeah i read through the manual you linked for me, and set the adjustments to factory but that was no help, it's gonna be something internal like the needle you talked about. I'm going to reference the manual you linked to see how to check the pressure i don't have a pressure gauge if one is needed.

Once you take the lid off you should be able to tell if the needles are sticking.

There are sectional drawings in one, if not both, of those manuals.

If I pull the top off this Carb to check the floats will i have to replace any gaskets or anything? A guy told me to make the carb back fire that would unstick the floats does that sound right?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS................. I think i fixed the carb not sure though, Ive been all over that thing the bolts that connect the carb to the intake were loose? but that wasn't it i think it was a little bracket on the side where the throttle cable is, it was all the way up i pushed it down a couple notches and its idling like a dream,(compared to 2000rpm)
before i drive it though i have to figure my starter out but that manual came in very helpful i'm gonna save that to my comp.
