I have an Amsoil setup and the beauty of the re-circ line is that the old oil in the bypass filter can be pushed out and captured from the oil-fill fitting...I did last week it it worked great....did the oil and oem filter change, then just ran the motor until I seen the honey color coming through and shut here down and topped off.
Darn... what a great idea... I am pissed I didn't think of that!!!
I use 14.5 - 15qts when changing my full-flow filter and 17qts when I change my by-pass filter (which is every other or third oil change)... but my Racor by-pass system has the return line from the by-pass filter that leads into the oil filler tube... so capturing the first 2qts that comes out of the filter and lines makes perfect sense!!!
How much is the amsoil bypass kit with EVERYTHING included to do install? Wanting to do setup on my truck. How long does it take to install?
Please remember, that changing one's oil and full-flow filter every 5,000 miles is key.. and no oil and by-pass filter will prevent the shearing down of the viscosity of the oil.
With that said, my Blackstone oil analysis reports document (I did not install by-pass untill 50,000 miles or so)... that my reports are the same before as they were after I installed the by-pass filter.
What does that mean... frequent oil changes (5,000 mile intervals) and using Racor made OEM/Racor/International oil filters are excellent filters and no other filter or filter combination provides better protection... when changing one's oil every 5,000 miles.
Save your money for other mods... especially spending on over-priced Amsoil filters and kits... but that is another story and opinion.
Mark...I help when I can...you cant think of everything, right? Happy to offer some assistance...I would also concur, that If I had to do it all over again, Id probably pass.
I had the system given to me, so I couldn't pass it up. I figure that every little bit helps and I needed a weekend project. I'm definitely glad I did it, but might not have if I had to buy the system myself.
When I change my oil with the bypass system I will pull the filter off and tip it upside down to let the oil drain out. Then keep using the filter untill it reaches 25,000miles. I think it would be waistful to leave bad oil in there.
