Hedman or Hookers is what I've been hearing. I actually was not planning on the headers because I had a buddy tell me every week in high school after class on Friday (this is the early eighties) he would have to torque down his header bolts, and head out the pickup some girls haha. I like all the aspects put I've been told that with new heads, intake manifold, headers, straight up timing, cam, roller tchain with +4 advanced=0* timing my truck will be quite a screamer. Especially so with the holley 950 and overdrive unit.

I have run Doug Thorley (sp?) headers before. It was on a big block so the mileage really only increased by ~0.5 mile/gallon. It did help the engine breath and seemed to give it a bit more on the bottom end. That was some time ago so it may have been more perception than reality (the increased exhaust noise seemed to play tricks on my early twenties brain). As for re-torquing them I typically just put a wrench on them at every oil change and called it good.

Headers really woke my 78 vette up, knocked half a second off my 0-60 time.

If I can get an extra 1/2mpg out of my 460, the headers would be totally worth it.

I'm starting to think so also SR. I was vehemently against them, but now I am starting to think it might be a good choice. I'd do it if the torquing was infrequent.

If you don't want to constantly re-torque the header bolts. Then invest in a set of "Stage 8" locking header bolts.

My 84 F250 4x4 came with some standard Hedman headers that some idiot cut off the collectors and welded the exhaust system directly to them.

I'm going to replace them with a pair of Hedman Elite headers. I've always been happy with their quality and fit of their headers.

Does your truck still have the TTB? Or does your truck have a D60 swapped in? Because the Hedman headers had a foot note saying they won't fit with a D60.

That's weird. If you are sure you've got the correct ones for your model truck, engine size and 4wd then they should fit. If you somehow ended up with 302 or 2wd headers then they might not.

Do you happen to have the part# for the set you've got? I believe the ones for your truck are the part # 89270.

Here's a pic of how my old ones fit before I tore the truck down. Not the best picture but it shows there's plenty of room for the driveshaft.

Fordman, your headers look fine as far as space from the driveshaft, but the pic that Clifford posted on another thread show the collector almost touching the drive shaft.
I plan on putting headers on my 86' F250 4x4 351W, but when I saw the trouble that Clifford had with the Hedman #89270's, I decided to wait and see how he makes out with his first. It is possible that LMC sent him some bad ones. Thanks for being the test pilot Clifford!
