I recently rebuilt my 352, and did many performance mods, it is running wonderfully, but I would like to get rid of the Generator/ Regulator set up, and go to a high output one wire Alternator. I am sure several people have done this , and I would like input as to what units others have used, in place of the stock cr**... err uhh units. I would prefer to go with something around 100 Amp or better... any input as to the Pros and cons would be appreciated. I am not looking to retain the old school look. After market or ford exact replacement, would be fine, I prefer not to buy junkyard parts, I prefer to buy new.

Go under article /specs here there is a great article under "one wire alternator". I will probably do it once I get some of the other projects done. Mine was already converted to a alternator by the PO. But it has the external regulator. Being a old GM tech I really like the GM alternators, easy to find , easy to rebuild, easy to find parts for. tell me how it turns out. Thanks
I like GM 12SI. Puts out about 80 amps, cheap, works and is really easy to install. Check out the tech article it may be the one I wrote about 7-8 years ago. Ford also makes a one wire deal that I will use on my next project, little more expensive and puts out around 100 amps. On ebay you can buy the wiring and alternator for around 130 bucks. I use Ford low mount brackets and these are also on ebay althoe you likley have what you need.

The PO had changed to a newer gm generator which uses the newer alternator style brackets, so the GM Alternator will fit right in, in the lower position. The Regulator is having reliability issues so that is why I am opting to go to a one wire set up. I would rather just get rid of all of the old and update to a newer more reliable set up. Plus I am going to add A/C back into the system, which it used to have. I want to upgrade the headlights, so I can actually see at night, I realize that I will also have to upgrade the wiring for those too. that and a new stereo, with higher power requirements, made me think that a 100 amp or so should handle it just fine. Mine is currently rated as a 53 Amp. I read the article on the swap, thanks that was a great help, it confirmed what I had already thought to be the case! Thanks once again!
