generator to alternator conversion - Help?
Hello, I have a 1960 F100 6 cylinder 223ci.
The generator has finally burned out after lots of time trying to regulate it and lights dimming and battery running low.
I would like to change to a Powermaster PowerGen Alternator one wire system, or something similar. I've heard I shouldn't go with a one wire though. Is there any reason for this? I won't be putting in a stereo or anything. It is just to run the truck and keep the lights from draining the battery while driving at night.
Please give me your tips. Is this a simple installation? Do I need to buy any extra parts? Should I replace the battery cable?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks Joe,
I'll look into it. I may have to go with the more expensive one that looks like a generator. In Switzerland, everything is supposed to be "original" to pass inspection, so I think it has to look like a generator. Kind of silly, but it will be easier that way. Thanks for your help!

I'm on year 3 with my 1 wire setup in my 64 econoline no probs to report.
on my 58 M100 I am running the delco 3wire alternator.
Only thing however I will recommend is if you have an ammeter in your gauge cluster it will have to be changed up to a higher amperage unit as the one wire alts put out a lot more current.
