i have a '87 F-150 4X4 4.9 4spd granny.i need to know how difficult it is to replace the pipe from the EGR valve to the exhaust pipe.the exhaust doesn't have an opening to except the new pipe.what do ya recommend?
Plenty of heat and some big wrenches. It is not unusual to heat the fittings red hot before they can be removed. I soaked my EGR fittings in PB Blaster for several days before trying to replace the EGR pipe on my F350. Heat and PB Blaster are your friend
I'm about to give up on mine and just do the restrictor plate option i've read about. Bad EGR and can't loosen the nut at the valve. A couple of days with PB and no luck. i've used some heat, but am worried about the fuel lines below. should i be? Good luck.
i've got the old pipe off. i've got a new pipe .but no connection hole in exhaust pipe.do i cut a hole in the exhaust and have it welded? where on the exhaust do i weld it?can it be welded?

no cat on my '87. or atleast not when i bought it in 2009.and still no cat.thanks for the info guys,i like the way yall keep it real and willing to help another ford truck owner.
one end of the pipe eas connected to the EGR valve the other end just hang down the right side by the exhaust ,the end was rolled and folded closed.so IT WASN'T CONNECTED TO ANYTHING.is that better for ya.
Yes that is much better, thanks. The exhaust manifold itself is what should have the EGR fitting that connects to the EGR tube, then on to the EGR valve. Appears a previous owner has swapped the exhaust manifold on you.
I am not that well versed on the 4.9L inline six but I think this is what the EFI exhaust manifold looks like:
The egr pipe connects just down stream from where the exhaust joins the manifold y-pipe. The bung is on the rear of the pipe, about halfway down the side of the block. If you pull the plastic inner fender liner loose, it is easier to get to.
