I am currently looking for a 1965 Custom Cab pickup to purchase.
I am looking for one like my dad used to own in the late 60's (his was a custom cab with a 352 and 3 on the tree, se attached pic). I see some on the net for sale with many different descriptions, some say SWB, what does this mean? also can anyone tell me what the different body styles were and the difference between them, or of a site that lists this all this info. I would like to find one that is exactly like his (good luck right)
SWB means short wheel base
SB is short bed (6 foot)
LB is long bed (8 foot)
FWD is 4 wheel drive (or front wheel drive...probably not on a 66 though)
SRW is sliding rear window
M/T is manual trans
A/T is auto trans
P/S is power steering
P/B is power brakes
A/C (you know this one)
C.C. is cruise control
P/L is power locks
P/W is power windows
PDL is power door locks
I would put a website on here that would tell lots of info...but the moderator might smack me!
If you can find a truck with all the options ( except the undesireable front wheel drive) DON'T LET IT GET AWAY!!
A 9 1/2 EEE in the rear maybe.
Smack, only if you wear a skirt cuz I would feel bad for doing it.
Feel even worse if you smacked me back.
Seriously, all info is welcome. If you want to do a full page, submit it to The Webmaster and he can post it in the articles section with credit to you.
Exactly like dad's? Including that big ol' camper top! Whew baby is that a monster!
Other people are going to tell you this too. When possible before purchasing, look at the areas that rust, i.e. the radiator core support, lower rear front fenders, cab floor, and the cab brace. (Check for it under the doors) Some of those are real hard to find, especially a good RCS.
Good luck hunting. Don't be afraid to ask questions. These people are a wealth of info and aren't afraid to help when asked!
These trucks are readily available and the long bed style side version is most common and somewhat less expensive. Looking at the mirrors I'd say your dads truck was a camper special F250. Very heavy duty truck. I'd post an ad in the classifieds here at FTE. Wanted 65 F250 Camper Special, 352 FE, Custom Cab, standard transmission on the column.
I do know for a fact that his truck is a F-100 and was not a camper special. and by the way, i want a TRUCK like his, not that nasty camper....he he he.
The mirrors were added later, due to the fact that he had a cabover camper on it, before the one in the picture (talk about a monster). I remember as a kid seeing how the cabover stuck way out and the extended mirrors were needed to see behind us.
Many cross country trips in the 70's in that baby.
If anyone is interested, I can barter my services as a graphic/sign/web designer for a sweet little 65 (big grin)
