Need to know procedure on how to change batteries on my F-250 PS, Some where I read: If you change one at a time you won't lose the electronic settings. Is this true?
If you don't have the batteries disconnected for that long, nothing will happen. Just make sure the lights and radio are off. I've had the batteries disconnected for 1-2 hrs without having to reset the radio stations or any issues with the transmission.
Funny, mine has always lost the volatile memory in 10-15 seconds. There's no storage with the batteries disconnected, so the parasitic draws pull the capacitors down pretty quick. Just do one at a time to be sure.
Maybe its an '03 vs '06 thing??? I hate when the tranny needs to relearn and I hate reprogramming radio stations. To the OP, do them one at a time to be safe.
Gearloose always says to leave the lights on for 10 minutes to clear the stored memory...

Gearloose also says that when you take your 6.0 into a Ford dealer for a oil change and ask for 10W-30 for colder weather their putting gasoline rated oil in instead of CJ rated oil.

That's overkill. I've checked with AE and it's clear after about 10 seconds. No need to turn the lights on, the under hood light is enough to kill it quickly. Maybe the later stereos have more energy storage for their memory, but you're still losing your transmission and VGT learning.

Gearloose says a lot. I'm not saying he's always wrong, but he has some interesting views.
Thanks for your quick replies. Just had my '05 PSD inspected last week at my local Ford dealer and it was recommended that the Batteries should be replaced. Since the Batteries are 6 years old, I assume it to be good advice. I have read, more than a few threads, that weak Batteries could possibly cook the FICM. I have a small solar charger hooked-up through the power outlet when not using the truck and the Batteries start the truck at 15 degrees F. But why flirt with a burned out FICM situation and the $$$$ involved. Thank God that the truck is running perfectly. About a year and half ago, the engine was pulled to re-seal the oil leak at the bedplate. Ever since, I've had no issues with the engine. Leaks gone, egr valve working, turbo spooling with a music to the ears whine. Got my fingers crossed. Question: any advice as to when to flush out the radiator and replace coolant; one, two, three years etc. Thanks again. MC
