Sync to Ipod

I recently lost my Ipod that had some 1300 songs which are also on the sync in my 2010 KR150. Being technology challenged, I am asking what is the proper way to get those songs out of the Sync into the new Ipod I will soon be purchasing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If your old iPod was linked to iTunes, just download your songs from the Apple web site. You never lose any songs on iTunes once on your page. I have some stuff that goes back to the first month of iTunes. But I am sure if you look in your Sync booklet it will have that info. Chris

And no, you can't transfer from your iPod to the internal HDD (or any other USB device).

Additionally, you can't transfer from the internal HDD to any other device.

I wasn't aware that you could upload your songs to the Apple website. That's news to me.

To dispel any misinformation, iTunes does not back up your songs in Apple's "cloud."

Any song(s)/album(s) purchased through iTunes can be redownloaded...should the need arise.

Any song(s)/album(s) that were acquired through any of the following must be recovered in a different manner (likely the same method that you got them in the first place):
  • purchased & downloaded from any other site (eMusic, for example)
  • downloaded from the Internet (for example, a torrent)
  • downloaded from a friend (shared via portable device like a USB memory stick or portable hard disk drive)
  • copied (a.k.a. ripped) from an original CD

As for the Sync system, it does not copy your MP3 player's contents to its internal hard drive. And, as shotgunz stated you cannot copy between the Sync system & a portable device (USB memory stick, portable hard disk drive, portable solid state drive, or portable MP3 player) or vice versa.

If Microsoft or Ford had chosen to allow copying to/from the Sync system, it would have enabled folks to further bypass copyright measures. You could download your files to the Sync system, and your buddy could download them off Sync via any of the aforementioned means...or vice versa.

Sorry about that, I only have songs that I have purchased via iTunes for my iPod and now my iPhone. I don't think I would know how to up/download from another source. I try to stay computer dumb as much as possible. Chris

Getting music onto your Sync

can be done using CD's, either commercial ones or ones you burn (with iTunes for example) if your truck's stereo has the hard disc drive. When you put the CD in the truck CD player one of the options is "Record" which allows you to record the whole CD or just selected songs off the CD onto the Sync HDD (hard disc drive). These recorded songs can then be accessed when you use the "jukebox" function of your truck stereo. The HDD can hold about 2500 average length songs. Once the songs are on the HDD they can be erased but they cannot be transferred to anything else (unless you dismantled the stereo and removed the HDD and let some computer geek recover the data on it).
If you have music on an mp3 player like an iPod or iPhone and connect it to the Sync with USB, the music is not transferred to the truck at all, the Sync system merely "indexes" the music on the mp3 player which allows the Sync system to display song information such as artist and song name and to organize the songs into various categories such as genre, artist, etc. The songs must have the "metadata" tags (artist, album, track name, genre, etc.) attached for this to work properly. Generally, any music purchased on iTunes will have the metadata attached to it.

Appreciate the replies. I have all the CD's and am in the process of ripping them to my computer where they will be stored and able to edit and download to the new Ipod. Thanks again for the info.

Call up Apple customer service and see if you cannot get them to download your purchases again for free. Worked for me once a couple of years ago but I had only lost several songs.
