Wiper Conversion

I was wanting to convert my wiper control over to one that has a delay because I really hate those days when it doesn't rain hard enough that I can leave the wipers on full time.
Can this be done and if so do I only need to buy the new wiper control with delay or is there something else that will be needed.

Not sure on the coversion but I have seen aftermarket add on delay units from JCW etc.

Its a pretty easy swap. Ford had them as an option in the 70's. All you need to do is find a 73-86 truck and swap them out. The parts you need are the wiper control (*** part) and a delay box. It's all plug in simple. I belive you may need to swap one wire on the 80's style plug for it to work. The 73-79's usually sell for $40 or so on Ebay

Is the factory delay system not part of the switch?

You need a special Switch & the Speed Governor from convert Non-Intermittent to Intermittent wipers.

Do these switches have a reputation of going bad at all?

I'd like to pick one up for my 78, but the current ones on ebay all say "good condition, untested, sold as-is." and I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a piece of crap that won't work when I install it.
