OK, I had to look at the dates on yalls trucks to confirm.
Why would my truck not have PATS?
Its just a plain ole key. I ordered the truck new in Jan '00 and it arrived in April.
I have a few spares, just had them cut. Im assuming yall are refering to the keys with a chip in them?

Not that I am concerned, just wondering more than anything else.

Should not be a problem, I put a different PCM (PMT1 - a truck PCM) in my Excursion and I did not have a problem programing additional keys.

PATS for super duties did not begin until 2008. Excursion saw them earlier. You would need PATS enabled on the computer, the exciter ring on the ignition, harnesses, and programmed key to 'add' it in.

Ok, lets try today, when i swap the new PCM its flashing theft light, and it wont go with normal "key trick" so I try to program the old key with AE, I tell if it works

It cranks normal but no smoke -> wont even try to start while theft light is flashing.

Today I tried to do this spare key programming with AE, I think that it goes just like it should be, first wait 10minutes and then select "enable spare key" and then press done, but it still wont fire the injectors and theft light is on, here is the screen show of AE, does anyone have any ideas what i should try next?

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I'll help if I can.

Just to make sure:

Is your new Key a transponder key, like this?

or is it a blank like this?

Hi, it is the transponder key, only one what i got which came with the car.

Keyless entry works like just before, but theft wont go away, should i buy "new/empty" transponder key? or is there any issues of programming new pcm/ PATS to using old transponder key which works with old pcm?

Summary:

With old possible broken pcm theft etc. works like it should be, but when i swap new pcm, it wont even try to start, and theft light is on, after that i program with AE the original transponder key but it wont still start and theft is on, cranks etc, but wont let fire injectors.

thanks in advance!

Hei,

What is the code of the new PCM you are using? In my Excursion the original PCM code was AXD0. I programmed my new transponder keys with this original PCM(AXD0) installed. When I purchased the PMT1 pcm the keys worked and the truck started without having to reprogram. The theft light does go on, flashes continuously for 20-30 seconds, then the flashin rate slows for another 20-30 seconds and the theft light goes off. So I don't think the PCM is your issue.

2 things come to mind.

1. Make sure there are no other keys and electonic devices on the key ring with the transponder key. ocassionally other devices can affect the communication between the PATS system and key. So make sure the transponder key is the only item on or near the ignition.

2. Only a total of 8 keys can be programmed. The PATS system needs to be reset in order to reprogram additional keys.

Ther keyless entry works seperately and is not connected to the transponder key.

Did the Excursion start with the old PCM and the new transponder key?

I will hook up my AE and program another key to see if I notice anything different compared to your experience.

Ole hyvä

Hi! thanks of those information =)

"Did the Excursion start with the old PCM and the new transponder key?"

No it didnt, i did full engine rebuilt etc. but atleast it try to start and lot of smoke(starter was weak etc), but now with new PCM it will not even try, injectors wont fire and AE shows p1260 theft detected, with old pcm it didnt show any codes of PATS/theft etc...

I just order new transponder key so i try to program other key. But it takes over 2weeks to get it here, so is there any ideas what i should try with AE and with only original transponder key what i got? while waiting new key... I dont have any spare key, just one original.

I hope this is the problem. After selecting "Enable Spare Key Programming" and clicking "done" you should see the software timer start and you have to wait 10 minutes for access. You need to do one additional step.

Select "program additional Key". It should be the last one on the list. Click on "Done"

Here are the options you should see:

ignition key code erase and program
enable spare key programming
disable spare key programming
> program additional key
exit

On a side note:

Make sure the batteries are fully charged, you need at least 10.5 volts on each in order to fire the injectors IIRC.

one more thing:

After selecting "program additional Key" keep an eye on the screen. If successful it with show "Key Programming Successful". It only stays on the screen for a couple of seconds then it is gone.

In addition, while in the PATS system you can slect the "live Data Meter" tab and it will show you the current number of Keys programmed in the PATS system. Remember, it can not be more that 8. If it isd you might try the "ignition key code erase and program" option which is above the "enable customer spare key programming" option.

Hopefully I am explaining this ok.

Thanks again! If i remember right, everything works like it should be, waiting 10minutes etc. but i dont remember that i have seen this: "Key Programming Successful" So maybe problem is the key? I try to program it again one more time that i can be sure that "Key Programming Successful" wont appear, if it wont, what can be the issue? transponder key?

thanks in advance!

If the Theft light is flashing continuously is sounds like it is the PATS system not recognizing the Transponder Key. But being that you have installed a new PCM I can not be completely sure. Is your new PCM the same PCM code as the original?
