Just wondering for those of you who have experienced problems with your transmission, what is the average cost to get your tranny totally rebuilt? My tranny shop is telling me that the torque shift tranny was weak from the factory. 2004 6.0, they will totally rebuild with stronger replacement parts and a 3 year unlimited warranty for $2,400. Is this about the going rate or should I be looking elsewhere to get mine fixed?
Correct me if I am wrong, doesn't a stock 04 6.0 have 560 ftlb tq? I have a Bully Dog tuner and silly me I like to run on extreme. I don't always drive like my grandma either......
The torqshift is a strong tranny. The problem is with a few parts on the inside that caused failure. Which ford fixed by the later years. In the tech folder you can read in the torqshift posts from bismic what years had what problems. That price is pretty cheap to be honest. But the rebulits should all have the upgraded parts in them by now. As long as the rebuild was done correctly that tranny should outlast your truck imo. As long as you do the required mainiance for it.

Find yourself a new transmission shop because this guy is full of s*it. Go to a Ford dealer and price a rebuilt which is guaranteed for 3 years 75,000 all over the United States, even the tow job.
Yes they do but their tg limit does not stop there. There is some spread build in to them. But yes you run highly tuned then you are passing their limits. but they are a strong trany for stock and a little more. And i also like to tune up sometimes but for short periods
Hmm, this has me questioning my tranny, I have my SCT set on the highest level, with firmer shifts....sometimes I will hit it, but usually I drive it normally

IMO there's a real good chance that's what killed your trans. In-line power adders like Bully Dog, Edge, etc don't change the transmission tuning to compensate for the added power. If you flog the truck all the time with that type of device installed on a high power setting it's just a matter of time before the trans can't take it anymore.
That's why you'll see most people suggesting custom tunes from a good tuner to those who are looking for more power. A well written custom tune takes everything (including the transmission) into consideration and gives you better, safer power than any in line module can.
5 = forward gears
R = reverse
110 = 1100 lb/ft of torque.
The trans will handle plenty of horsepower/torque in stock form. What it won't tolerate (for long, anyway) is not having the necessary "tweaks" done to it's tuning to handle that power.
Add to above, everytime you change your tune setting, the tranny must relearn, so, when you do romp on it, before its relearned, its likely causing damage. Your bullydog is not making over the 1100 ft lbs its the relearn cuasing damage. Your new tranny will have the same problem.

The 1100 lb-ft of torque is after the torque converter multiplication. The converter torque ratio is about 2:1, which means 1100 lb-ft at the transmission input shaft is about 560 lb-ft at the crankshaft.

Your tranny shop is full of it. There was something like ONE month of trucks produced in 04 that had a machining problem with the 5R110. A stock 5R110 is a stout *** transmission and will EAT an Allison 1000 in stock form. There are a lot of stock transmissions running around with higher levels of HP with no problems. It depends on who's doing the tuning.
