I've got a 1959 Ford Panel Truck, and I want to convert it into 4x4 and power it with a 4.6L modular and c6. hope I can convert it to 4x4 without a frame swap, was wondering which and what year dana front axle would work best. I was thinking 44 with leaf springs was wondering if a 61 thru 65 front end would work well? Also as far as leaf springs will the existing 2wd type leafs be enough to support a 44 axle if not would 61-65 4x4 leafs that go with the 61-65 dana bolt up to a 59 f series panel.
didn't know you could bolt a C-6 to a mod motor...I have a 79' bronco with a 428 fe,,and the d-44 is working fine,,,as long as I don't play to hard..what are you going to use for a transfer case?? It can be done it just takes lot's of cash and a little time or lots'a time and a little cash...will the mod even fit in there??
Your panel, in theory, should have the same components of a '59 F100 4x4. So either a front suspension swap from one, or use the entire frame from one, would get you a factory 4x4 set up. Then it's a matter of making the engine and transmission/tcase fit. There was 1 year where the 4.6L shared the SBF bell pattern, then you could use a SBF C6 4x4 tranny and tcase. There would likely be some ample time in locating all of these parts, though. Good luck!
I haven't seen anybody that sells an adapter to go from the mod motor to a C6. I have seen a Bellhousing to use a C4 on a mod motor. These guys sell it ATI Racing Transmissions - Ford C4 Transmissions . But it's over $500 just for the bellhousing!
