Yeah unfortunately you will have to go with a gear vendors unit as these are just for manual trans. Personally what I would do in your situation is pickup a t-19 and then run one of these ranger units. You can get them for about $1300 and free shipping. it will pay for itself in a year for my application.
The Ranger Splitter bolts to the bellhousing of the manual trans, and the 4spd trans bolts behind it. So it won't work with an auto (integral bellhousing).
I've been reading some links about various ways to convert this particular overdrive to a vaccumn/electric motor assist. I mostly want to do it because I like the t type pull switches mounted on my gear shift. I am very familiar with those. Any ideas as to how I could modify this? Thus far I am thinking some kind of air assisted cylinder/piston with assist into and out of the ranges. I could run the cylinder from my air compressor tank which will power my air horn setup. I am open to any and all ideas and suggestions though.

thats a good idea. i never thought of it. ive been lookin for a way of cleaning up the many holes cut in the dog house on my truck.
There was a company that sold an overdrive unit that was basically the same as the Ranger unit, but with a side mounted electric motor to control the shifting.
They went out of business in the '90s though.
Yeah like Texas Motor Products or something like that. They made the "double trouble" unit which a member here has. I would love to get ahold of him and see how exactly that setup works and how I can copy such a device. Having a pop switch like a semi would be dang sweet!
Take that 3 grand and buy a beater car to do your highway running in. Back before I had my mustang, I had a '92 Camry 5-speed that i was into for about 1500-2000 bucks and it was the greatest investment i could have made. never got less than 32 mpg. Just my 2 cents tho...
Beat driving the truck all the time by a long shot
With a ZF, you still have a wide-ratio trans. The Ranger unit lets you split each gear, letting you stay in your engine's powerband much better.
Ever trying to go 25mph in town, and 3rd is too low, but you're lugging and about to stall in 4th? You could just shift to 3rd-over with the splitter.
Thats the thing, with my dodge it has a 5spd nv3500. I have an option I can rev the sucker out in 1st or I can lug it out in 2nd. To hit fifth on some hills with a load I have to rev it out in 4th I'm talking like 60-65 and then hit it in 5th which has almost no acceleration in it. With a pallet (1 ton?) of pallets in the back I had to use first all the way out dang near pop the clutch to get going and do 10 mpg home (country back roads) I'm not complaining because its a v6 and 1/2 ton and been a great truck, I'd just rather stay in my power band. Honestly the cool factor is what gets me too. I'm working on a way to convert it to an electronic shift motor as found in the eaton rear lockers but that will take some additional figuring and parts hunting. I really want one of those red t pull handles on my stick shift like the semis! Although the brownie style 3rd lever would be awesome too. Just gonna have to see.
