Ok guys some of you know that i replaced my head gaskets and lot of other stuff on the truck. I go out to start the truck a few days ago and it cranking super super slow. Im like ok dead batteries again. Well I put the charger on them and its only like 3 or so volts short of 14. Im like wtf is the deal here.
Try it again and it jus goes rur rur.....rur.....rur..............rur. I let go of the key and im like wtf so i try jumping it with my parents car still the same thing. Then i try it again and the starter solenoid on the passenger fender well is going CLUNK every time you turn the key. Im like ok its bad got a new motorcraft one from auto parts store and no change. CLUNK with every turn of the key. WTF!!!!!! Ive looked everywhere nothing different anywhere. It started like "normal" at work and that morning just fine. I NEED HELP HERE FROM THE PROS.
What is is guys!!!???? Has anyone else had this problem???
Ground issue or starter power cable. Clean all battery terminals, the places on the block where the grounds go, and the starter terminals. Clean and if it work, then please coat all of the connections with some kind of corrosion inhibitor. Itll make you lots happier! If it doesnt work, i vote batteries If they are at 11 volts, its not right. They should sit idle at 12.7 or so. mine do so should yours.
The clunk is normal, you are creating a magnetic field in the fender relay....that closes the internal connection (clunk). This allows full battery power to go to the starter solenoid which in turn pulls the bendix into the flywheel and closes the power contact to the armature.. spinning the starter.
What is the volt reading on the dash meter...... how low does it go on a start?
Ill check the terminals and all connections in the morning. The batteries and all the terminals on the cables are new tho. Starter is not even a year old yet. And no volt gauge on dash jus amp meter. Ill check in the morning let you guys know.
All the cable ends look good and tight on the block I took a wire brush to one to get some of the crud off but its nice and shiny.
Can I hook my battery charger up to my starter and just flip it on for a second to check to see if the starter is good??? I dont wana pull the starter unless its getting replaced. And the starter is not even a year old and the solenoid is only like 4 or 5 months old on that.
