Truck failed inspection because of non-functioning E-brake. Shop dude swore up and down that the cable was fine, and the problem was the pedal assembly.
Went to junk yard. Wrassled out a pedal assembly, and went home to swap it out. Finally got the one in my truck out, and it's fine. (Foot pad was bent, but functioned fine after removed from truck)
Pulled on the cable and it wouldn't budge. (I'm a very strong individual. If it was going to move, it would have.)
Pushed on the cable, and it went in fine. Question is; Can I re-assemble everything under the dash, and replace just the rear portions of the e-brake cable, or do I have to replace everything all the way to the pedal?
Is your cable rusty and sticking? The pedal sticks in the up position or down position? Maybe try some WD-40 where you can reach. Take off the rear tires and brake drums and see how the cable moves the e-brake pads; might be rusty in there too. If the drum won't come off, remove the oval rubber stopper (axle side) and turn the star wheel to adjust the e-brake pads inward.
