I think it was a bad block heater plug. I had to replace the ground about 10in back from the plug, changed the plug and it fired right up this am. WTS light hardly stayed on and no white smoke. Thanks for all the help guys!
It may not, actually probably shouldn't, spark with the key on. The majority of the load is going through the relay like it's should. Path of least resistance. Sounds like that part is good to me.
As for the thing working now. I don't think you are done yet. If it will not start at the temps you were having then something else is wrong. These things should start just fine down to -10 -20. Maybe even lower but that's the coldest I've personally done it without the block heater. Something else has to be wrong. I don't know what without more information. Seeing the datastream when it's starting would be a huge help figuring it out.
I think the batteries are going as well. After drawing them down trying to get it fired, they sat on the charger all day and still didnt reach full charge. Hopefully I can get them to last a bit longer. Don't really feel like shelling out 3 bills at the moment, but it is a necessary evil
I just got two new motorcrafts at Oreilleys for about 125 each. It was money well spent. If you get them their computer is screwed. Tell them the highest CCA ones in the computer and it will be the motorcrafts.
