79 f150 steering setup ?'s

doing a 6inch lift in my 79 f150.. going to make heim steering.. my question is how to set it up.. i wanted to put the tie rod on top of the knuckle and put a saddle on it for the drag link.. but i have seen where they are running the drag link to the top of the knuckle and leaving the tie rod at the bottom... what is better??? i have read that you should have the drag link and trac bar the same lenght.. is that all true?? cuz if so then runing the drag link to the knuckle wouldnt make them the same lenght. and not possible... HOW should it be set up?? by the way its for OFFROAD.. HELP PLEASE TIA

Tie rod under the knuckle and the drag link above. Make sure you use grade 8 bolts and you pin or cotter key below the nut.

The trac bar and drag link should be the same ANGLE, not LENGTH.

LENGTH and ANGLE or they won't travel in the same arc and you'll have bump steer.

that cant be right Paul.

Your trac bar is a good 6" shorter than your drag link as they are factory F150 front suspensions. The two links would have to mount on the axle and frame at the same spot which they almost never do.

Hell, look at the little trac bars on the 80-90s 350s. That thing is only about 16-18" long.

Same angle... And if you build a fancy bracket and weld it to the one knuckle you can run the tie rod on top, I'll find a pic...
.

EDIT:

Kinda like this, but both rod ends between the kuckle and the top bracket.

Well, not exactly the same. The more travel you have in your suspension the bigger of a problem it becomes, the trac bar on the stock F350's doesn't matter because they have about an inch of travel. It's compromised for the sake of mass production, same as the front shackles.

the truck has 6inch deavers.... so it will be full of articulation!! So if it is to have same LENGTH and ANGLE wouldnt it be better to put a "saddle" on my tie rod for the draglink to mount to??? and NOT run the draglink to the knuckle?? and if doing it this way then i might as well put the tie rod ONTOP of the knuckle.. correct??

Id say NO to this setup for the fact that my knuckles are NOT FLATTOP!!

My knuckles have nothing bolted to the flat top...... look again cupcake, thats all welded on to the front of the knuckle.. Its always possable to weld/fabricate something.. Also double shear is always better than single..

But welding the knuckle is a whole nother situation to be talked about...

Is that square tubing? Please enlighten me to this new concept, that does not look particularly strong, but I have been wrong before.
