Has anyone used the duplicolor paint system. Thinking about paint-course I still have all the bodywork to do but here is hoping I get some time to work on it. Saw some stuff on tv using was wondering if anyone had shot it. Thanks
I don't mind the colors, but I have never had good luck with the clear coat that they offer in the paint shop line. If I were to do it I would use Duplicolor paint shop paint and then buy a clear such as Nason.
Its Ok stuff. I repainted the bed. It was this icky 2 tone orange-ish and creme color, my truck is white. I scuffed it up good with Scoth Brite, rinsed it, and let it dry for an hour. Did it all in my driveway on a fairly calm 70deg day and I'll have to call it a 25 footer....Oh and it took almost 7 cans. Been almost 10yrs since I did it and it still looks good for what it is. Remember....its all in the prep work.
They have both-what I was looking at was the quart size and already has the reducer and catalyst in the paint. Their website is pretty good and I think advance auto carries the paint primer and clear.
i painted my 78 with the premixed duplicolor ur talking bout looked great it sprayed nicely, thinned out real nice with acetone, helped with dry-time.color doesnt really pop til clear coat applied.good luck
If you wanted some cheap/good paint I would look into Summit brand paint. I think there single stage is like $80 a gallon, and 2-stage around $140 a gallon.
On my farm we have a 70 F250 that was sprayed in the mid 80's using tremclad and I just rolled a 63 M100 using the same stuff. This stuff holds up really good as far as wear goes and the truck has yet to start rusting. Only complaint I have about it is that it fades in about 5 years if left in the sun and has to be buffed back to a shine. We also have a couple tools painted with Rustoleum in the late 90's that the paint peeled right off of so be weary if you go the enamel paint way.
