I've heard you can supposedly get a vehicle insured for a specific amount I.E. if you've got paper showing you've done specific work and document the value and expense of that work you can insure it for that dollar amount say Insure it for $5,500.00 cause of a lift kit engine and transmission rebuild and a mild performance upgrade say a Cam and Heads haven't tried it myself but my friends on www.cb1100f.net mentioned it a few times when discussing our bikes
^ You can do that, it takes work and you must take pics and have papers for everything and you have a custom add-on to the policy. Its also more money, but thats the price you pay.

My insurance co. requires an annual appraisal. My agent strongly urged me to do this for my 92' F-250. This truck is literally like new(except goose-neck PO installed to pull 2 horse aluminum trailer). He looked it up and told me as of right now if I totaled the truck that I would only get $6100.00 for it. He swears the truck is worth almost twice that. Setting up appointment next week with him and his appraiser. Never really thought about until I stopped by his office driving it to take care of some other business. We'll see...
Here is pic of truck right after I picked it up...
I know I'm getting older and sometimes my memory needs rebooting but did'nt we not to long ago have a federal farce called "cash for clunkers"? It was not as big of a success as obama wanted it to be but I would bet he has his insiders screwing with the parts industry....soon it will be china or nothing. thats my story and I'm stickin to it

Kinda like we're not gonna mess with you gun rights, then raise the tax on ammo 500%...lol.
Watch the political stuff, or a good thread will go bye-bye.......
I have no trouble coming up with parts, new or salvage for F-series of our years.......Hell, a lot of fleets/companies still run them out here.
Rangers are my play toys..........parts for older Rangers are getting REALLY hard to find in comparison to F-series..............The crusher feels no sympathy.
so that was political? or close to it I guess, sorry for it. is it o.k. if I drive two Fords and a Mazda but deep in side I love CHEVYS?

While there is always pressure to get older "less efficient" vehicles off the road (gotta save the trees dont ya know), most of it is strictly a cost/profit ratio scenario. For every one of us on boards like these, there are 50-100+ owners that will just go ahead and junk it out when it finally breaks down. Late last year, I was at the local PAP and they brought out a PERFECT '96, CC, 1ton dually. XLT Lariat interior, 5pd, factory aluminum wheels, 7.3PS. Only thing wrong with it was the fuel pump had died... needless to say it did not last long before it was completely scavenged (I was lucky the rear doors were still there when I went and got them). Honestly, some of the stuff I see in the PAP at times just makes me shake my head, just the other week I walked past 1 '91 Bronco, 2 mid 80's Bronco's, 1 ext cab and 1 CC mid '70s F-series, all of which ranged from easily fixable (1 of the '80s and the 2 F series) to "why is this even in here?!?!?" (the 91 and other 80 Bronc) the 90 was just about perfect!! The people who send those to the JY are the problem/reason new parts are getting harder to find. If a manufacturer can make a run of 10,000 parts with a cost of $10 ($7per part machine and tooling, $3 per part labor/material) per part that they can sell for $20 per part, thats $100,000 profit. If they can do a run of low demand parts, say only 1000, now the part cost rises to $15 per part for machine and tooling, add in the same $3 per part labor/material, and you know have a part that costs them $18 to build, sell it for the same $20 and they make $2000. If they can make $100,000 vs. $2000, which do you think they are going to build? Depending on the costs in machine/tooling and labor and materials vs. demand, it is very possible that many of the parts won't even make a break even point for them, as to recoup the costs they would have to price the part so high nobody would buy it anyways.
