trick valve cover

Had WAY too much time on my hands so I thought I'd play around with an Idea I had for my valve cover. Cleaned and prepped, I painted the whole cover with black "wrinkle" paint. Then sand the paint off the raised "Power by Ford" letters. Kind of a poor mans Mickey Thompson valve cover. This photo was when I had it down to 120 grit. Gonna go progressively down to 600 and then polish. Afterwards, then hit it with clear engine enamel to keep it from rusting. Just messin' around.

Done. cleaned, painted and installed

Here it is installed, kinda hard to see (sorry, cell phone pic)

Yeah I know, the rest of the engine bay is butt-ugly but that's next. Clean and paint the engine bay and planning on re-taping all my wiring and cleaning up the harness.

I think the PS pump would look cherry if it were painted to match the valve cover.

So what's the big deal about painting my power steering pump. It was already painted anyway except you couldn't see the paint through the road grime and caked-on oil and dirt. So what...a chrome one would make it go faster or turn better, besides I agree with Harte3, black wrinkle would be kinda cool. I just cleaned it and re-painted it. I like it, so there!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, that's not like painting a rear diff is it. Not trapping in the heat? I wanna know, thanks. Mike

I personally don't care for chrome but like a well painted ensemble. The engine looks great just the way it is and that is a great job on the valve cover.

Maybe Kevin is auditioning as a script writer for Leno?
